Interview with Owen Griffin concerning his experiences as owner of an auto repair business in Denton, Texas. Griffin discusses his family background, his experiences moving from Georgia to Texas in 1919, his work and education near Homer and Royston, Georgia, Denton in 1919, his employment with Acme Brick, his part-time work as an auto mechanic and his work in Will Evers's pecan orchard in 1922, and his full-time employment as an auto mechanic for Sid Smith in 1924. He also describes auto dealerships and repair shops in Denton, his experiences working for Hopper and Blackburn from 1935-1938, and Griffin comments on North Texas State President William Bruce and W. R. Lakey's concrete company. Griffin talks about when he opened his auto repair business in 1938, his personnel, his experiences teaching industrial arts courses at the North Texas Lab School and with Out of School Youth (OSY) program at Denton High School, the effects of the Depression in Denton, his work for Harris and Koenig hardware store in the 1920s, and his experiences demonstrating farm equipment. He also speaks of his credit practices for his auto repair business, cooperation among auto mechanics in Denton, auto repair equipment improvements, the sale of the business in 1968, his civic activities, and changes in Denton since the 1920s.
